Makeover Monday Composite Deck in Annapolis, Maryland

Image
This week’s Makeover Monday features not one, but TWO new decks for our wonderful clients in Annapolis, Maryland. As always, our project begins with an onsite visit from one of our friendly and knowledgeable Project Consultants. Jeff Gottleib met with the homeowners to discuss their plans for their two outdoor spaces and go over material possibilities and composite deck color options that were readily available and in stock. Once the design decisions were made, the CAD drawings were complete, and  HOA approval was set , we were ready to get to work. Before Wood Deck in Annapolis, Maryland We demoed and hauled away both existing wood decks, and constructed a new 21’6″ x 15′ pressure treated fame with a 4′ x 4′ landing. We then placed Timbertech Reserve decking in Driftwood using hidden fasteners. This type of composite decking is designed to retain color and is extremely resistant to moisture intrusion, as there are no wood or mineral fillers in the cap. We then installed one set of 4′

On the other hand, hardwoods are more expensive then softwoods like pine, but its lower maintenanc

3 Reasons Why Your New Deck Needs a Vinyl Gazebo

Image
Having a screened-in porch is the perfect marriage of indoor and outdoor living. While we do offer  screened porch installations in Anne Arundel County, we unfortunately are unable to provide that service for other Maryland counties. But, don’t worry! Fence & Deck Connection is happy to provide a beautiful alternative to screened-in porches that will not disappoint — vinyl gazebos. A gazebo  is an attractive outdoor structure that also serves a very practical purpose. It’s a pleasant place to sit outdoors, topped by either a semi-open roof that provides shade or a waterproof shingled roof that protects you from the elements. The gazebo’s structure can comprise just posts and no walls, or low walls about three or four feet high. While a gazebo without walls requires less material, installing walls will enable you to attach benches and add screens if you want to keep insects and critters. Though not a traditional screened porch, a vinyl gazebo offers many advantages to enjoying th

A Much Needed Donation to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank

Image
Just last week, Fence & Deck Connection stopped by the Anne Arundel County Food Bank (AACFB) to present a check that will help local families who are struggling during this especially troubling time. The money was collected from a percentage of our November and December residential sales profits as a way of giving thanks and   supporting those in need   during the holidays. As a result, that means all of our wonderful end-of-the-year clients played a part in this wonderful donation to a phenomenal organization! Fence & Deck’s VP Sales & Marketing and Managing Partner Jeffrey Wall, along with Marketing Strategist Nicole Bailey met with AACFB Executive Director Susan Thomas and Operations Director Marta Jones to present the check and learn more about the ways the COVID-19 pandemic has affected donations, distribution, and volunteerism. When COVID first hit the United States last March, donations to the Food Bank dropped a staggering 73%. With so many residents out of work a

How to Safely Use a Fire Pit on Your Wood or Composite Deck?

Image
The weather is warming up which means we’ll soon be spending warm afternoons spent outside with friends and family. Many time those afternoons turn into long evenings, and when the sun goes down, there’s nothing quite like the ambiance of a toasty fire to keep the conversation and laughs going. But what to do when you don’t have a large enough yard, and the only place to put your fire pit is on your deck? It may seem dangerous to put a fire pit on a deck made of the very materials you’re putting inside the pit to burn! Concerns for both wood and composite decks span from basic fire risk to warping, to cosmetic damage. Wooden decks, and composite decks made with Trex or TimberTech material are a large investment, so having a good understanding of potential risks and what information you need to evaluate them will go a long way in helping you protect your new outdoor space.   With the proper safety precautions however, you can safely use a fire pit on decking, both wood and composite.

Best Fence Options for Your Furry Friends

Image
Just like humans, our beloved pets like to spend time outdoors. For dog owners especially, it’s important to have a safe outdoor space where your pup gets plenty of fresh air and exercise. A decently sized yard is great, but without a proper enclosure or fence, you’re left with the task of keeping your dog on a leash. Fences enable your pet to play in a secure space, without risk of running off, getting hit by a car, or coming into contact with stray animals. A well-installed fence also allows you to open the back door and let your pet do its business, without early morning or late-night dog walks — total game changer! If you’re thinking about getting a pet, or already have one, it’s wise to consider the best fencing options that will suit both your home  and  your dog’s personalities. So what’s the best fence for dogs? Take a look below for a little more information on popular types of fencing that will keep your dog safe and secure.
